DESCRIPTION OF PRESENTATION:

Mental Health assessments are to address a person’s psychiatric, psychological and/or cognitive issues that an employee may have that interfere with their ability to work or attend to their relationships. Different types of mental health professions will be discussed and differentiated with a focus on neuropsychological assessments. Neuropsychological testing is a comprehensive evaluation of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functions used by Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) to help individuals with issues like return-to-work planning, diagnosis clarification, and developing treatment strategies. The evaluation includes standardized tests, interviews, and a review of medical and academic records to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses following conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The goal of an assessment is to provide a detailed report with recommendations for treatment, accommodations, or other support services to improve daily and work-related functioning.

PRESENTATION OBJECTIVES:

•  Participants will understand the differences between various mental health professionals, and understand which professional is appropriate for your client/employee’s needs.
•  Participants will learn what their employees are to expect during an evaluation.
• Participants will learn what is assessed during the evaluation and how the  validity and severity of the clients’ symptoms are assessed.
• Participants will understand how EAP-related testing helps clients return to work by clarifying their diagnoses, which leads to appropriate treatment, accommodations and support.

PRESENTER

Tony A. Fletcher, Psy.D., ABPP

 Tony Allen Fletcher, Psy.D., ABPP is a clinical  neuropsychologist, licensed clinical psychologist and  forensic psychologist in the Chicagoland area who specializes in the assessment of neurologically based disorders, psychiatric disorders, personality issues and psychological problems. 

Dr. Fletcher received his Master of Science (M.S.) and his Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Florida where he received extensive clinical and research training within the fields of clinical neuropsychology and forensic psychology. 

Dr. Fletcher completed his pre-doctoral internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and the Neuropsychiatric Group in the Department of Neurology at the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital.  He completed his two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology in the Department of Neurology at the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital. After completing his fellowship in 1997 and was hired as a Clinical Neuropsychologist for the Isaac Ray Center, LLC in the Department of Psychiatry and the Law at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.  There he completed psychological, neuropsychological, and forensic evaluations of individuals in regards to fitness to stand trial, insanity (criminal responsibility), diminished capacity, sexual dangerousness and violence risk.   Dr. Fletcher also published in the British Journal of Psychiatry as the Director of Workplace violence while at the Isaac Ray Center, LLC.  Dr. Fletcher consulted with companies, police and fire departments, schools, and other businesses regarding initial hiring, employee difficulties, risk of violence and fitness for duty.  

He performed over 250 evaluations for initial hiring and fitness for duty for various police departments and has been utilized by the Secret Service in regard to potential danger to the President of the United States.   While performing forensic work around criminal law with the Isaac Ray Center, LLC, Dr. Fletcher began to build his private practice in civil litigation; performing evaluations in regard to personal injury, negligence, malpractice, civil commitment, and capacity to consent to treatment.  He was recruited by the Illinois Department of Human Resources as a clinical neuropsychologist to aid in evaluating mentally ill individuals who have been accused of a crime in 2001.  Dr. Fletcher continued as a Clinical Neuropsychologist for state of Illinois  until 2014.

Dr. Tony Fletcher became Board Certified in Forensic Psychology on April 8^th, 2011.  The receipt of the Diploma in Forensic Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) attests to the fact that an established organization of peers has examined and accepted Dr. Fletcher as functioning at the highest level of excellence in the field of forensic psychology.
